Navigating the Complexities of Wetting in Ink and Coating Formulations
The ability to effectively wet challenging surfaces has emerged as a significant hurdle in the formulation of inks and coatings. With the ongoing advancements in packaging materials, including low-density polyethylene, oriented polypropylene, metallic films, and aluminum foil, formulators face increasing complexities. Furthermore, evolving regulatory standards necessitate that products not only perform optimally during printing but also comply with consumer safety regulations. Additionally, issues related to hydrolytic stability of surfactants have led to variations in ink wetting properties over the product's shelf life.
In this presentation, an expert from Evonik had discussed the relationship between surface tension and substrate wetting, as well as the distinct roles of dynamic and static surface tension in both water-based and energy-cured systems. While a one-size-fits-all solution is not feasible, the diverse range of products offered by Evonik Coating Additives provides effective strategies to tackle these wetting challenges.
